Reception – Miss Bufton

Pirate Day

Reception had a fabulous Pirate and Mermaid day last week. 🏴‍☠️🧜‍♀️We made swords, pirate boats and dug for treasure! We found a message in a bottle in our classroom, and had to follow clues to find the treasure chest. In the afternoon, we walked the plank, sung sea shanties, played party games and had pirate food 🏴‍☠️ 🌭

Mental Health Awareness Week

For Mental Health Awareness week, Reception recapped what mental health is and why it is important to look after our mental health. We then discussed things that make us happy and feel better ❤️‍🩹 the children then thought of and drew and wrote about 3 things that make them happy 😃

Pirates

Reception have had a fun week learning more about Pirates. We found out about the parts of a ship and what each part does. We then carried out an experiment to test different materials to find out if they were waterproof or not. We then spent the week junk-modelling and making pirate boats with masts, sails and some even added portholes! We finally tested them in our water tray to see if they would float or sink. Well done, Reception!

Hardwick Park

Reception had an amazing time at Hardwick Park, learning all about the life cycle of a caterpillar, going on a minibeast hunt, creating some natural symmetry butterflies and feeding the Gruffalo more sticks in the woods. After a walk to look for signs of spring time, we even got to see a goose sat on her nest keeping her eggs warm! ☀️🐛🦋

Spring Walk

Reception enjoyed a Spring walk around the paddock to find signs of Springtime, ticking them off on their clipboards when they found them. We then spent some time sitting and listening to the sounds we could hear around us.

Hoopstarz

Reception had a fantastic time doing Hoopstarz, practising our hula hooping skills.

World Book Day

Reception had a wonderful World Book Day, cosy in our pyjamas or dressed as our favourite characters.

We drew ourselves in our costumes or pyjamas, looked at and listened to lots of stories throughout the day, played a game of guess the story and took part in a Julia Donaldson character scavenger hunt around our classroom. We all had a lovely World Book Day 📚

This week is National Careers Week. In Reception, we have explored lots of different careers. We then thought about what we want to be when we are older and drew a picture of this.

Chinese New Year

Reception found out all about Chinese New Year: we made lanterns and dragon masks, matched up Chinese numbers and wrote invitations for our party for the Nursery children! 🧧 We all loved the party and enjoyed trying some Chinese food and took part in some dragon dances. We finished the week with finding out what the future has in store for us with some fortune cookies. 🥠

Valentine’s Disco

Reception got dressed up and went to the Valentine’s disco. We danced, had juice and a hotdog and even got to choose some sweets. There were lots of amazing dance moves!

Valentine’s Day Stay & Play

Reception enjoyed an afternoon of crafting and snacking with our adults for our ‘Valentine’s Stay and Play’. The children had lots of fun and completed lots of crafts to take home. We hope you all had a lovely afternoon too.

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week in Reception, we have spoken about mental health, different feelings that we might have and how it’s ok to have feelings and share how you feel with an adult or friend. We then thought about who keeps us safe at home and who is important to us. The children then went off to draw pictures and label them with the important people in their lives.

Greg Bottrill Visit

Reception felt very lucky this week as we were joined by Greg Bottrill, founder of Drawing Club, Story Dough and more! The children absolutely love Drawing Club and they were so excited to have Greg in the classroom and lead a session! They all were so excited to draw their own Cheese Goblins, show him their pictures and tell him what their code does! The learning and language that Drawing Club enhances is amazing and best of all it brings joy to the children.

Antarctic Explorer Video Call

This term, Reception have been learning all about the Arctic and Antarctica. We have been super lucky to be in contact with Dave, who is currently in Antarctica on an 6 month expedition. He has been sending us photos of the animals and vehicles they use and he even did a live zoom call with us to show us base camp and the landscape including the ocean right next to the camp. We have loved exploring our role play area and acting out expeditions, we have looked at maps to find where in the world is Antarctica, made split pin Arctic animals and thought about what clothes you might have to wear when out on expeditions.

Big Schools’ Birdwatch

Reception joined in with the ‘Big Schools’ Birdwatch’. We made bird feeders and went to hang them around our school grounds, looked for different species of birds and took part in lots more fun activities during the week!

Children in Need Day

Reception loved wearing spots for Children in Need Day and we took part in lots of Pudsey activities including designing Pudsey a new T-Shirt.

Theatre Nurse Visit
