Sky Arts Week

Year 2 created their own 3D art mobiles as part of Sky Arts Week. We cut out our favourite shapes, used a saw (with adult help) to make a frame and tied our shapes to the dowel. 

Sports Day

Year 2 had a great time at Sports Day. We completed the egg & spoon race, sack race and howler throwing. Here are the winners of our running races. Well done to everyone!

Bowless Education Farm Visit

Year 2 had an exciting day being farmers. We found out about the different animals on the farm and how to care for them.

Australia

In Geography we have been learning about Australia. To start our topic, we got to play a didgeridoo. It’s harder than you think!

Instruction Texts

In English we have been reading Flat Stanley. In the story, Stanley becomes a kite. We made our own kites and wrote instructions on how we made them. We had fun testing them out!

Art Gallery & Mining Museum

We enjoyed our time exploring the art gallery and mining museum in Spennymoor Town Hall. We saw Norman Cornish’s art studio and some of his paintings. We found out lots about mining in the local area and explored what it would be like inside a mine. We also got to see where the Mayor holds her meetings.

Hoopstarz

Year 2 had a wonderful time learning to hula hoop with Hoopstarz. We are ready to show our skills at playtimes!

Easter

Year 2 had some fantastic entries in the Easter egg competition this year. We all enjoyed an afternoon of Easter Crafts too.

Soup Making

In DT, Year 2 researched different vegetable soup flavours and then we made our own. We went to Aldi to buy our ingredients and made tomato, vegetable and potato and leek soups. We learnt how to peel and chop a range of vegetables. We shared our food with Year 6 who thought it was delicious! 

Go Well Sportability

Some of Year 2 took part in a Sportability event with Go Well. The children played a range of games and had a lovely morning.

World Book Day

We celebrated in class and dressed up as our favourite characters or wore our pjs. We took part in a live author event. We heard from Alice Hemming, the author of ‘The Flower Thief.’ Throughout the day we talked about our favourite books.

Investigating Microhabitats

In Science we have been investigating microhabitats in our school grounds. We observed living things living in soil, under logs and in the leaves. We found worms, a ladybird and snails.

Tie Dye

This term in Art, we have been exploring tie dye techniques and created our own designs on t-shirts. It was so much fun!

Rev. Matt Visit

In RE we have been learning about Baptism in the Christian faith. Rev. Matt came into class to demonstrate what happens in the service. We also heard the story of Jesus’s baptism.

Story Time

We invited our grown-ups into school to join us for story time. We read Tom Percival’s ‘Sammy feels shy.’  We chose this book because we have read others in the series about different emotions and feelings and enjoyed them.

Spennymoor Library Visit

We enjoyed going to Spennymoor Library and choosing our own reading for pleasure books.  We have been reading them in our free time back at school. 

Christmas Activities

Christmas was a very busy time for us.  We had our Christmas Party and Santa joined us to deliver some presents.  We had Christmas jumper and dinner day. We sang in the Christmas production.

Mental Health Day

Year 2 wore their clothes inside out for the day for World Mental Health Day. We spoke about feelings and how they show on our body. This links to our ongoing Zones of Regulation work.

Barclays Careers Event

Year 2 were excited to tour the Barclays mobile bank when it visited school. We heard all about the ways it can help lots of people in communities around the North East.

Careers Visitor

We have been learning about Humans and what they need to survive in Science. We talked about how babies need different things to adults. A midwife visited us to tell us all about her work and what babies need to stay healthy. We explored some of the equipment she uses to do this in her job. She wears a special uniform which she brought for us to try on!
